Trip to Townsville

I had a quick trip to Townsville on the weekend. There was a salsa dance on and it was near to Mums birthday so I decided to use the trip to cover both. Saturday morning I caught the mid-morning flight up there. Its a three hour direct flight and I wish I had taken my notebook so I could have watched a movie. I did have a book to read but that got kind of boring after a while. Mum picked me up from the airport and we went straight to lunch with a few others. My sister and I gave Mum her early birthday present. We had gotten all Mums old slides out of the house without her knowing, scanned them, and had them published in a couple of books. She really like it.

After lunch I visited some family and then went to a ballroom dance competition so I could see my friend Gaylene. I saw a few others that I knew there from my ballroom days and it was nice to catch up. I even got asked to do a waltz during a social dance which was fun. Time was running late so I left the dance to get ready for the evening fun.

The salsa dance was the first anniversary of a social dance that a group runs in Townsville. I’d been to the first dance and wanted to be there for this one. I arrived early at about 8pm and had to wait until the slow people (yes you Linda) turned up almost an hour later. From then on it was lots of dancing. I had a great time and really enjoyed spending time with friends.

Sunday morning was a little sleep in and then caught the lunchtime flight back home to Sydney. Another hour or so catching trains/buses home. By the time I got home I didn’t feel like cooking dinner so walked to a nearby Thai restaurant and got some takeaway for dinner. I had a great weekend. Although it was hard getting out of bed this morning. I need a rest from the weekend.
