Charlottes Web

Had a group of friends come over yesterday afternoon for a swim. Despite it being cloudy and overcast for most of Thursday onwards the pool was still a nice 34 degrees. Thank you Mr Heating System.

Last night Jo and I went to the movies and saw the movie Charlottes Web. I remember really enjoying the book when I was in school so wanted to go and see the movie. And I thoroughly enjoyed it as well. I even got a bit teary eyed in places but that was probably just dust from the airconditioning.

Mr Bond?

I went to the movies last night with Karen to see the new James Bond movie, Casino Royale. I say new I mean remake. The Ian Fleming novel was made into a movie in 1967 but was made as a ‘spy spoof’ comedy moreso than an action movie. I’ve never seen it but from reviews it sounds pretty bad. Perhaps the makers of this 2006 movie kept ‘the bad’, because it ain’t that good. Not enough action, hard to understand dialogue, confusing characters, and a huge slow nothingness in the middle of the movie make this one movie to not rush out to see. If you do rush out make sure you go to the bathroom first. The movie is 2hrs 20mins and tack some advertisements and preview onto the front of that and you sure don’t want to be drinking the extra large coke or you’ll be crossing your legs before the movie is half over.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Its been raining most of today so seemed a good time to go to the movies. I went with some friends to see Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby starring Will Ferrell. I was in the mood for a stupid comedy and wasn’t disappointed. The story is of Ricky Bobby (“he has two first names”) who grew up thinking if you’re not first, you’re last, and nothing. So he drives fast. Very fast. But sooner or later everyone has their fall from grace and Ricky is no exception. A car crash and a competitor driver bring Ricky down to earth with a hard crash. I really enjoyed this movie and found it was exactly what I was looking for.

Show Day

Its a local public holiday for our annual ‘show’. But I’m at work, working the phones and making sure our staff at the 20-something offices that aren’t closed remain IT happy. I don’t mind as I have no intentions of going to the show and after the crappy weekend I’ve had its good to go to work and actually do something. The weekend was painfully boring and I passed the time by drinking (lots) and going to the movies. Beware spoilers ahead…

Click – I saw this movie on Saturday afternoon at the Warrina Cinemas. I really enjoyed this movie. Had some real funny scenes as well as a few sad parts thrown in. Story is Adam Sandler’s character who is struggling to get ahead at work while still spending time with his family. He gets his hands on a remote that controls his universe. So now he can fast forward the boring or bad bits.

Superman Returns – Movies are getting too long without any story being added and this movie is a prime example. It goes for about 2 and a half hours and I could have easily cut it by an hour. The story is weak. And a bit annoyance for me is that the story universe laws are flawed. Ok we all know that superman gets sick around kryptonite. And put him close enough to it and he will die. So in the movie they stab him with a kryptonite knife, then build an entire land mass filled with kryptonite, which superman picks up and flys up into space and throws it away. I mean, COME ON! Oh and they’ve given Miss Lane a child. An ugly kid who can’t act. Yep I’m afraid this movie is extremely disappointing.

Over the Hedge

I went to the movies last night and saw the cartoon Over the Hedge. Its the story of a group of animals who wake from hibernation to find that their woods has been turned into suburbia. A racoon named RJ teaches them the ways of ‘man’ and shows them how plentiful food can be found in the new environment. Of course dangers lurke. Its a pretty good movie and I really enjoyed it. Not just for kids.
